Burnt Mill Farms evolved from Burnt Mill Veterinary Center in 2013, as owners John and Nadine Simms retired from veterinary practice. Their 120 acre farm is home to seven llamas of varying colors. The fiber is processed at Gurdy Run Wool Mill in Halifax, PA. The skeins are 2- and 3-ply DK weight and are approximately 4 oz each, providing 250 yards of yarn. Most yarn is blended with 30-50% Merino wool to provide the “spring” that makes it very desirable garment yarn. Some wool is also processed into rugging yarn, which is made into handwoven throw rugs of various sizes by a local Amish weaver. All colors are natural.
